Week 5

The New OS

Aaron Russ - 3/22/2026

God calls us to live in the “new operating system” of the Spirit, not relying on our own effort or outdated patterns, because true transformation comes from walking in step with Him, not striving in the flesh. When we surrender control and are led by the Spirit, His power produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, and self-control in us, preserving the pure Gospel and aligning our lives with God’s will.

What’s something you know you should update, fix, or deal with… but you’ve been avoiding? (keep it light)

Take It In

What does this reveal about who God is?

I. Read Galatians 5:13-26

  1. As you read this, what contrast do you notice between the flesh and the Spirit?
  2. How have you personally experienced the inner conflict (flesh vs. Spirit)?
  3. According to this passage, what does Paul say actually leads to freedom? (V 16, 24, 22, 25) What does he not say to do?

Talk About It

How do we practically apply this?
  1. When you’re struggling or feeling pressure, what do you instinctively turn to: trying harder, avoiding, controlling, or depending on God? Explain.
  2. What are some of the things that keep us from walking by the Spirit?
  3. Read Galatians 5:22. What’s the difference between producing fruit and trying to manufacture it? How could this change your approach to living in holiness?
  4. Where do you notice yourself trying to ‘fix’ or ‘produce’ something in your life instead of receiving from God? (Ask Holy Spirit!)

Take It Home

What are we doing this week?
  1. In the sermon, it was proposed that many of us are “outpacing the Holy Spirit.” What is one place in your daily rhythm where you’re moving too fast to actually hear God?
  2. What is one simple practice you can try this week to ‘stay in step’ with the Spirit? (silence, meditation, journaling, practicing an awareness of God’s presence, etc)
  3. Where this week do you expect to feel pressure, temptation, or anxiety, and what would it look like to depend on the Spirit in that exact moment?
