Take It In
What does this reveal about who God is?
- Read 2 Samuel 6:12–19. David finally had everything Saul spent his whole life trying to keep, and his very first move as king was to go get the ark, the presence of God, and put it at the center of the nation. What does that one decision tell you about David's heart and what God desires for us?
- Read 2 Samuel 6:20–22. Michal despised David from the window, but he wasn't trapped by her contempt because he already had God's approval. What's the difference between Saul's question, "what will people think?" and David's question, "what does God deserve?"
- Why does it matter to give God what He deserves? What is cultivated in us when we do that?
Talk About It
How do we practically apply this?
- Be honest with the group. If we looked at your actual lived-out calendar this past week, where would God's presence land? At the center, or in the corner? What's been crowding it out?
- Whose approval are you most tempted to perform for these days? When that "voice in the window" starts criticizing you, how do you usually respond?
Take It Home
What are we doing this week?
- Faithful. Name the one place God has you right now that you've been tempted to rush past or resent. What will you do this week to be faithful right there?
- Focused. What will you reorganize this week so His presence is the center of your life and not the corner of it? Get specific. A time, a place, a rhythm.
- Free. Where will you choose to cut loose and express your love for God past your comfort zone this week, whether that's lifting your hands, raising your voice, giving generously, or stepping to the altar? Name it out loud to the group.
