What does this reveal about who God is?

1. Read 1 Samuel 10:16. Saul had been anointed, encountered God, and received confirmation after confirmation, yet he still kept it hidden from his uncle. Why do you think Saul struggled to share what God was doing in his life?
2. Read 1 Samuel 10:17-19. Israel wanted a visible king instead of trusting God as their king. Why do you think people are often drawn toward visible control instead of surrendered trust in God? What do you think this passage reveals about God’s patience and mercy toward His people?
3. Read 1 Samuel 10:20-23. Saul is chosen to be king and is hiding in the baggage/supplies. Why do you think God so often chooses imperfect, insecure, or unlikely people throughout Scripture? What does this say about the character of God?

How do we practically apply this?

1. Look at 1 Samuel 10:20-23 again. What “baggage” (insecurities, fears, shame etc) has kept you from doing what God has called you to in your life?
2. Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-27. What does this scripture say about who God calls? What are some common lies that make us feel disqualified from doing what God has called us to do?
